My Ancestors

My name is Mrs. Reverend Karen Lundquist, "Third Great Granddaughter of Chief Rain-In-the-Face. I would like to share with you. As I learn more and more about my Sioux heritage, I am convinced our Creator, created each one of us with purpose in mind. I am a descendant of Chief Rain In-the-Face. My third Great Grandfather was a Hunkpapa, of the Sioux/Lakota tribe. He was also known as (Ito-na-gaju or Exa-ma-gozua.)  When I look at photos of Chief-Rain-in-the-Face and my Grandmother, I see the family resemblances. We all come from someone and from somewhere, and  it is important to know about our genealogy. The First Nations People have always been spiritual people. A people that have always been aware of creation, and the life in the earth. They have always sought counsel from the "Great Spirit," our "Creator," knowing man needs guidance and direction enabling him to do the right thing. Often I'm drawn to the history of my ancestor's, and I'm proud to be part of the First Nations People. My desire for deep intimacy  with the Creator was passed through the generations that followed Chief Rain-In-the-Face.  I believe that as my ancestors cried out to the One True God, even before having heard the message of God's Dear Son, they are forever abiding in His presence.  1 Corinthians 8:3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him.

As our Creator spoke to me, this is the vision that spoke to my heart: Somewhere along the path of life, the destroyer of life came bringing death, fear and imprisonment, and we became a lost people. Our hopes and dreams vanished into thin air, nowhere to be found. We became bitter and angry because we could not stop the oppression upon us. We tried to defend ourselves, but in the end, it was to no avail. After this invasion of evil, we knew sadness and we eventually became quiet, and there was no more rejoicing and dancing. There was only sorrow and loss. But after many dark nights had passed, we heard of a man. His name is Jesus, Son of the Great Spirit, Creator of all things! We heard of Him before, but this time He came to us in all His Glory! His light opened our eyes, and we gained understanding. We woke out of a long slumber, and there He stood! We have always been Spiritual people. Our Creator has always spoken to us and guided us along our path in life. But now it is different, it is better. We are passing through this land to another, to the promised lands, virgin lands that stand eternal, lands uncharted by greed, and ill attempt. These new lands will be governed by the Creator of them, and they will never again be taken from us. As we inhabit this new promised land, we will walk side by side and commune with our Creator. We will never again be separated from Him.  This promise will never be broken. It is a covenant from everlasting to everlasting. Psalms 105:8.  He hath remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations.  Hebrews' 8:10.  For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: 11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. 12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. 13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away. Isa 60: 21 "As for me, this is my covenant with them," says the LORD. "My Spirit, who is on you, and my words that I have put in your mouth will not depart from your mouth, or from the mouths of your children, or from the mouths of their descendants from this time on and forever," says the LORD.

A Sioux Prayer
Grandfather Great Spirit All Over The World
The Faces Of Living Things Are Alike.
With Tenderness, They Have Come Up Out Of The Ground.
Look Upon Your Children That They May Face The Winds
And Walk The Good Road To The Day Of Quiet.
Grandfather Great Spirit
Fill Us With The Light.
Give Us The Strength To Understand And The Eyes To See.
Teach Us To Walk The Soft Earth As Relatives
To All That Live.
